What We Believe

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.  As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.   Romans 10:9-11

Core Beliefs

Faith Community Church is a church charged by God to teach sound doctrine. Our desire is to faithfully communicate God's truth as revealed in His Word to everyone. We desire to hold tenaciously to the essential doctrines and to be charitable in those areas that are nonessential to our saving faith.

God

We believe in one living God who is eternally Self-existent and is by nature three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He has created all things through His Son by the power of His Holy Spirit

Isaiah 45:5-7; Exodus 3:14; Matthew 28:19; Genesis 1:1; Hebrews 1:2; Genesis 1:2

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is fully God who took on human flesh through a virgin birth. He lived a sinless life, died a substitutionary death for our sins, was buried and physically rose from the dead and ascended to heaven to sit at the right hand of His Father in glory. He is now interceding for those who believe in Him.

John 10:30-33; Matthew 1:22-25; Hebrews 4:15; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Hebrews 1:3; Hebrews 7:25

Man

We believe God created man in His own image. Because of Adam's sinful rebellion against God, all men are sinners by nature and by choice. Man’s sinful condition results in spiritual death and separation from God without any ability to do what is acceptable to God.

Genesis 1:26-28; Psalm 51:5; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23; Isaiah 59:2

Salvation

We believe forgiveness of sin comes only through faith in the Person of Jesus Christ who died a substitutionary death on the cross for our sin. Forgiveness cannot be earned by doing good works, joining a church, following church sacraments or physical inheritance. Salvation is a free gift received by trusting in Jesus Christ alone, repenting of our sin and confessing Jesus Christ as Lord. The evidence of genuine salvation is demonstrated in a transformed life of obedience to God and His Word and deeds of righteousness. The goal of salvation is to conform every believer into the image of His son. The new life given is eternal and secured by God.

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, co-equal and co-existent with the Father and the Son. He convicts the world of sin, activates our salvation, indwells every believer, immerses us into the church, and transforms our character and lifestyle as each believer yields to His power. He equips every believer with a supernatural gift to minister to the body of Christ.

The Bible

We believe God has given a record and testimony of His will for mankind called the Scriptures. This is the sole basis of our belief. It is composed of sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament. It is completely authored by God and given to us flawlessly through the individual personalities and different styles of chosen men. It is authoritative truth and given without any error in its original writings. It is the complete revelation of God's truth that cannot be added to or subtracted from. It is sufficient for our lives and effective to accomplish what it says.

The Church

We believe all believers who place their faith in Jesus Christ are baptized into one spiritual body, the Church, of which Christ is the head and which is His bride. Every believer is called to participate faithfully in the fellowship of the church; and to devote themselves to worship, prayer, God's Word, observance of baptism and communion, service and outreach. We believe in believer's baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin and the burial of the old life. It is the mission of the church to "make disciples" of Jesus Christ and to deal with any sinful members through church discipline. The local church is led by godly men called pastors and elders and is self-supported by the generous giving of her members.

Marriage and Family

We believe God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. It is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood or adoption. Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God's gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship according to biblical standards, and the means for procreation of the human race. God detests all forms of sexual immorality; including adultery, homosexuality, and pornography. We do not acknowledge or approve of any form of marriage other than the marriage of one man to one woman. The husband and wife are of equal worth before God, since both are created in His image. The marriage relationship models the way God relates to His people. A husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the Church and has the God-given responsibility to provide for, protect, and to lead his family. A wife is to submit herself lovingly and respect her husband's leadership, serving as his helper wherever possible. Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord. Parents are to demonstrate to their children God's pattern for marriage. Parents are to teach their children spiritual and moral values and lead them, through consistent lifestyle example and loving discipline, to make choices based on biblical truth. Children are to honor their parents.

Future Events

We believe in the literal, visible and soon return of Jesus Christ for His Church. He will also judge the earth and its people and return to establish His kingdom reign for a thousand years. He will at a future time predetermined by God resurrect all mankind to either eternal life or to everlasting punishment. Then we who are saved will live forever with the Lord in a new heaven and a new earth.
